Washington, DC (November 27, 2006)- Congress may not pass appropriations legislation until next year, when newly elected members will join the 110th Congress on January 4th. Only two FY 2007 budgets – defense and homeland security – were passed during the current session. All other agencies are now operating under continuing resolutions, which fund federal programs in the absence of FY 2007 appropriations.
Now is a great time to make contact with your incoming elected officials. Many are gathering information from district constituents in preparation for the next session. Be sure to let your House and Senate members know about the importance of the federal Urban and Community Forestry program and Urban Forest Research. These two Forest Service investments make a big difference to state and local programs.
