National NeighborWoods Month- October 2006
a national campaign to regreen America's cities
Alliance for Community Trees
Dear NeighborWoods Month Partner,

October is National NeighborWoods Month!  Have you assembled your team and chosen your activity?

Schedule Your Event.

Remember to consider other activities taking place in the community and how they might affect your event. Have you scheduled your event at a convenient time for everyone involved? Will the schedule allow you to maximize opportunities for attendance and media coverage?

Location, Location, Location.

Hold your event in a location accessible to the whole community. By bringing your partners into your organization's target area, you let them see the effects of your work.  Does the location accomodate your production and attendance needs? Go on a site visit before making a decision.

Up next....

*    Define event goals.
*    Plan to get attention.
*    Create a budget.
*    Plan the work; Work the plan.
*    The Big Day.

How can National NeighborWoods Month benefit you?

*  Builds partnerships to enhance, improve, and restore America’s communities.

*  Improves quality of life through hands-on volunteer action.

*  Educates people about stewardship by planting and caring for trees.

How else can ACT help?

ACT can help you develop a list of local media contacts.  The list should include environmental/outdoors reporters, local/metro staff, features/calendar/events, news desks, and editorial page editors from community papers, radio stations, and local television newscasters .  The more relevant your contact, the more likely your event will be covered.  Look for reporters who write about trees, focus in the neighborhoods where you work, or whose assignment area/desk fits the story you are pitching.

To start developing a list of local media contacts or for other questions you may have, email or call ACT.

Sincerely,
Jared Liu
