Dear NeighborWoods Month Partner,
October is
National NeighborWoods Month! Have you assembled your team and chosen your activity?
Assemble the Team.
Who will you involved in the planning of your event?
Be sure to include volunteers, residents, local businesses,
and elected officials. Encouraging your stakeholders to
participate in the process helps foster diversity and provides a
valuable experience while uniting the different groups around your
organization's mission. Think about how you will involve and
engage them to use their skills to the fullest. Ask for
resources- such as time, money, and energy- to help brainstorm,
develop, and complete your NeighborWoods Month projects.
Choose Your Activity.
What kind of activity are you planning? A
tree-planting event can also be a fundraising event, a social or
educational activity, and/or help recruit more volunteers.
Brainstorm, assess your needs and resources, and decide what type
of event would best meet your organization's and your community's
goals. Up next....
* Schedule your events.
* Location, location, location.
* Define event goals.
* Plan to get attention.
* Create a budget.
* Plan the work; Work the plan.
* The Big Day.

We
encourage all urban and community forestry groups and other
organizations including state, county, city, and other local agencies
to participate. Urban and neighborhood
playgrounds, parks, schools, residential streets, and environmental
educational centers, are all great fits for this program.
How can National NeighborWoods
Month benefit you?
* Builds partnerships to enhance, improve, and restore America’s communities.
*
Improves
quality of life through hands-on volunteer action.
*
Educates people about stewardship by planting and caring for trees.
