A Billion Trees Planted
Nairobi (November 28, 2007)- Prof. Wangari Maathai, the inspiration behind the initiative, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) and Prince Albert II of Monaco announced that a promise made last year to plant a billion trees had been met.

SUCCESS STORY
Openlands TreeKeepers
(Chicago, IL)- As part of its Community Greening effort, Openlands in Chicago operates a TreeKeepers program that has certified more than 800 volunteers to work on public property to plant and care for trees. TreeKeepers is the only non-governmental group authorized to mulch, prune or plant trees on public land in the city.

RESEARCH
Majority of Americans Want Local Action on Global Warming
New Haven, CT (October 5, 2007)- A recent study found that nearly three quarters of Americans (74%) would support local regulations requiring all newly constructed homes to be more energy efficient, even when told that this policy would increase the initial cost of a new home by roughly $7,500, while saving approximately $17,500 in utility bills over 30 years.

Senate Looks at Financial Risks of Climate Disclosure
Washington, DC (October 31, 2007)- The Senate held a hearing to look at the financial risks and opportunities posed by climate risk disclosure. Chairman of the Securities, Insurance, and Investment subcommittee Jack Reed (D-RI) began the hearing by noting that while many businesses regard climate change as posing both a commercial risk and an important business opportunity, climate risk disclosure is very rare.
