One Planet- Ours!
Washington, DC (March 18, 2008)- This year the United States Botanic Garden's ever-popular summer exhibition will focus on sustainability- not only how it applies to gardens and the landscape, but also how each of us and our communities can live for tomorrow, as well as for today. One Planet- Ours! will feature government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and individuals who are leading efforts toward sustainable lifestyles including the Alliance for Community Trees.

 

   
 


SUCCESS STORY
Flowering Tree Sale
Greenscape of Jacksonville sponsors an annual Flowering Tree Sale that raises money, increases public awareness, and results in the planting of thousands of trees. The sale has become a highly anticipated annual event held on the last Saturday in February. Buyers have the opportunity to purchase trees at only slightly above the wholesale price and receive information and technical assistance from landscaping experts..

 


     
 


RESEARCH
Sustainable Sites Initiative
Washington, DC (March 1, 2008)- The Sustainable Sites Initiative is collecting case studies that use sustainable land development and management practices. You are invited to submit projects that monitor and document the success or failure of sustainable land practices. Projects should llustrate such sustainable practices as stormwater management, integrated design teams, water conservation, habitat restoration (soil, vegetation and wildlife), education, user health and well-being, materials selection and management, and others. Response Deadline: May 1, 2008.

Rep. Perlmutter Introducing GREEN Act for Affordable Mortgages
Washington, DC (April 18, 2008)- U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO), will unveil his G.R.E.E.N. (Green Resources for Energy Efficient Neighborhoods) Act for affordable mortgages on April 22. Perlmutter's bill provides incentives to lenders and financial institutions to provide lower interest loans and other benefits to consumers, who build, buy or remodel their homes and businesses to improve their energy efficiency, including with trees.

Learn how to fundraise, build, and advocate for great places to play in your community! Led by KaBOOM! presenters, KaBOOM! Workshops entirely on Play are one-day, FREE regional trainings packed with interactive sessions, networking opportunities and first-hand success stories. From planning a playground project to involving your local government in the cause of play, WE Play! sessions give all participants the tools to take action.

You likely know TechSoup for their software donation program to nonprofits, but now you can also request quality, low-cost refurbished computers. If you need additional computers or just want to replace older equipment, check out the new configurations and place your request. There are desktops and laptops from manufacturers such as Dell, IBM, and Compaq.
