College Park, MD (February 25, 2008)- The Alliance for Community Trees is helping the University of Washington gather information about the research products and tools you need to be able to better promote urban forests. SUCCESS STORY
Working with Community Development Block Grants
The Delaware Center for Horticulture, through a partnership with the City of Wilmington, receives $50,000 a year in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for street tree planting and maintenance. This allows DCH to expand its planting efforts and to reinforce the connection between greening programs and community revitalization.

 


     
 


RESEARCH
STRATUM: New Tree Guides and New City Analyses
Davis, CA (February 1, 2008)- For those who live in the Interior West or the Northeast, there are new versions in the series of Community Tree Guides. These peer-reviewed publications provide regionally based information and quantification of the many benefits that trees provide. They offer help adapting the data to fit your city's circumstances and suggest ways to maximize benefits through strategic planting.

FTC Looks at Carbon-Offset Market
Washington, DC (January 8, 2008)- The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) held a workshop to examine the emerging market for carbon-offsets in the United States. Carbon-offsets are generally classified as money pledged to reduce carbon emissions through different means, such as planting trees.

 

   
 


EVENTS
Adult Workforce Training- March 20, 2008
The green industry is a $40 billion market and increasing quickly. In many sectors of the green industry, including tree care, there is a job for every trained worker available. Some communities have caught on and are offering adult workforce training to expose high school graduates and at-risk young adults to these career opportunities. Particularly, the partnership between urban youth and trees diversifies the green industry's work force and makes green areas more accessible to urban communities.

 
   
 


FUNDING
Awards for Greenways Design Projects- Deadline: June 15
The Kodak American Greenways Awards Program, a partnership project of the Eastman Kodak Company and the Conservation Fund, provides small grants to stimulate the planning and design of greenways in communities throughout America.
