IN THE NEWS
ACT Webcast Recording Available- Adult Workforce Development
If you missed ACT's recent webcast on green workforce development, you can view and listen to the presentation online. The session is one hour and available for free. Eagle Eye Institute of Boston and Trees Forever of Iowa are preparing young adults for jobs in the $40 billion green industry. The programs teach marketable skills and valuable work habits to help connect people to jobs in arboriculture and the landscape industry. With presidential candidates and advocates calling for programs to support the creation of a "green collar" workforce, there is an opportunity to expand job training programs in arboriculture and related industries.

SUCCESS STORY
School Park Playgrounds Program
Using a unique partnership model with the City of Houston and local school districts, SPARK, School Park Program in Houston, Texas, has helped to develop 180 public school grounds into neighborhood parks since its inception in 1983. Approximately one-third of those playgrounds have been "re-sparked" to update and improve facilities. A key component of the program is community involvement from beginning to end.

PUBLIC POLICY
Take Action to Save Urban Forestry
Washington, DC (March 13, 2008)- The Alliance for Community Trees is joining together with 15 national organizations in opposing the drastic cuts proposed for the Urban and Community Forestry Program (U&CF) in the President's FY 2009 federal budget. The proposed 82% cut would leave the national U&CF program with only $5 million in funds for FY 2009 to deliver assistance to all 50 states and territories.
