ACT POST CONFERENCE EDITION

Thanks for making the ACT 2008 Member Rally & NeighborWoods Academy such a success.  Overall, attendees rated the day a 4 (very good) on a 5 point scale. Almost every other evaluation noted that the some session or the whole day was informative. However, I think the best evaluation came from one of the cleaning staff. He said, "I can tell that people were really paying attention and engaged because, when they're not, I find doodles and confetti all over the tables and floor."

Stay tuned during the next couple weeks for more information, pictures, the member report, strategic trends, conference proceedings, and more.

MEMBER REPORT
Growth Rings

Attendees overwhelming asked for the Member Report to be given every year. Members want to hear about how they are doing and what ACT has accomplished. So, in early 2009, ACT will unveil the full Member Report, and give a mid-year update at the 2009 Annual Meeting. Meanwhile, here are some simple steps you can take to grow with ACT:

* Maintain membership in ACT. Renewal membership requests for 2009 will arrive in January. Please return them ASAP to help keep ACT growing (with 30 new organizations joined in 2008!).

* Use Alliance for Community Trees Member affiliate logo on your website, letterhead, newsletters, and other materials.
Logos are available at:  ftp://actrees.org/Member_Logos

* Attend one of ACT's free monthly webcasts
Every third Thursday of the month.  The next one, on 12/18, is the third part in a four part series on Marketing and Communications. If you've missed any of the webcasts, the recorded sessions are available at ACT's website.

* Monthly report your organization's accomplishments
Your answers to these surveys help us to market ACT members as a group and better support you as we spotlight the work and issues of urban and community forestry. Surveys are posted mid-month, and each should take only a few minutes. Contact ACT if you're unsure if you have completed all surveys for the year.

STRATEGIC TRENDS
Grow with ACT

Members want to stay informed about strategic trends in urban forestry, and grow with them. To that end, ACT actively works to align national priorities with local outreach. At this year's Annual Meeting, members weighed in on these five priorities:

1. Less programs/services and more education/knowledge-based initiatives.

2. Programming shifts including prioritizing urban and community forestry across multiple disciplines.

3. Focus on communications and advocacy.

4. Regional planning that coordinates efforts among city officials and multi-year partnerships with local government agencies.

5. Climate change as a real opportunity to engage citizens to green their communities.
