Trees is dedicated to improving the environment where 80% of Americans live: our cities, towns, and villages. Together, ACT's national network of members have planted and cared for 14.9 million trees with help from 4.3 million volunteers.
 
ABOUT WEBCASTS
The Third Thursday Webcast Series is a monthly webcast held at the lunch hour. The goal is to create informal trainings for local urban and community forestry organizations. The trainings leverage local successes by amplifying to a larger audience the model organizations' methods, materials, and approaches.

SERVICE EVENT
November 8, 1:30-4:30pm
Friends of Trees invites you to participate in a volunteer project to plant trees along the I-205 bike path, in support of the Greenspace Initiative. This service event is more than a way to catch-up with friends... it is an opportunity to learn from some of the best volunteer organizers in urban forestry. We invite you to start off your conference experience by seeing first-hand how they do things in Portland! Dress for damp weather. Vans depart from the hotel.

MARKETING SEMINAR
November 8, 1:30-4:30pm
Marketing expert Robert Palmer delivers one of our most popular seminars from the Community Tree Leadership Forum workshop series:  "Leveraging a Positive Perception in a Competitive Marketplace." The program focuses on the fundamentals of good marketing with community trees as the product. This workshop will send you home with a polished and concise message to better communicate your goals to stakeholders.

The Alliance for Community Trees Board of Directors will hold a two-hour business meeting.  ACT members are welcome to observe.

 

   
 


ACT ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
November 8, 5:00-6:00pm (open meeting)
Alliance for Community Trees’ State of the Union Report for ACT Member Organizations, the membership meeting will provide critical updates informing ACT Members’ work in the coming year. Members will endorse ACT’s National Advocacy Agenda for 2010, pledge local action, and hear the latest on ACT’s achievements, programs, and partnerships benefiting ACT members. An update on member trends and benchmarks will be provided. Guests welcome.

SCHMIDT TOUR & DEMONSTRATION
November 7, 12-4:00pm (pre-conference option)
J. Frank Schmidt is opening their beautiful 10-acre arboretum to conference goers as well as offering demonstrations on bare root and B&B digging (by hand and by machine), grafting techniques, and choosing quality bare root and container stock. More than 400 varieties and cultivars of deciduous trees are grown at the nursery. Since this conference is in the heart of tree-growing country- more than 23% of the country’s deciduous shade and flowering trees are grown here- this is a perfect addition to the week's activities. Shuttle service will run from from the MAX Line in Gresham.

ROUNDTABLE ON COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
November 10, 5:30-6:30pm
Cornell University wants to learn from you about how to engage community participation in urban forest stewardship. Cornell Cooperative Extension-NYC is partnering with ACT to develop research-proven models for effective community engagement. We invite you to share your experience with the research team as Cornell embarks on this exciting project. Refreshments provided.
