NeighborWoods Month Primer- Part II
October 1, 2009
1:00- 2:00pm EST

Under the banner of National NeighborWoods Month, local organizations are joining together to promote our common message- that trees are essential to the health and livability of our cities and towns. In October 2008, NeighborWoods Month resulted in 33,000 trees planted by 18,000 volunteers at 412 events across the country. This broad reach of NeighborWoods Month raises the level of discussion and action in your community, by emphasizing that tree canopy protection is both a local and a national concern.

MEMBER'S PERSPECTIVE
Rene Lafflam, RNeighbors (Rochester, MN)
NeighborWoods Month is going to be a key event for any organization that has a branded NeighborWoods program, but RNeighbors takes it to the next level. In 2008 alone, they sponsored 7 events ranging from a Citizen Forester training to a multi-language community door knocking campaign, and also leveraged other events such as The Home Depot's Corporate Month of Service and ServiceNation Day of Action to maximum NeighborWoods Month advantage.

MEMBER'S PERSPECTIVE
Nate Faris, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful
Keep Indianapolis Beautiful has a plan called NeighborWoods to reforest Indianapolis with 100,000 trees in 10 years, and to boost people's investment in their neighborhood. NeighborWoods Month is a great time for them to reconnect with the national campaign. For example, in October 2007 Keep Indianapolis Beautiful planted 430 trees and hosted at least two plantings each weekend, with participants including the Mayor, Indy Parks, City Forester, and local CDCs.
