OVERVIEW
On the Cusp of Green
Now that other bills are wrestling back attention from healthcare, green is once again the new black! However, there are a lot of "gray" infrastructure imposters out there. So keep to your line of what's really green whether it be green jobs, green infrastructure, green energy, green transportation choices, or other. Congress is now back from their summer recess and looks to take up some of the bills so dear to the green community. Some items, such as the Energy Conservation through Trees Act are so close to being a reality, that we don't want to lose focus now. Please take action!

CLIMATE BILL
Tree Planting Program (Sec. 205 of H.R. 2454)
Formerly known as the Energy Conservation through Trees Act, this program passed in the House Climate Bill, and now we need a similar amendment in the Senate. Please ask your Senators to co-sponsor a similar amendment during Senate debate of the Climate Bill on the full floor.

Making It Green (Sec. 295 of H.R. 2454)
Formerly known as the G.R.E.E.N. Act, this program passed in the House Climate Bill, and now we need a similar amendment in the Senate. Please ask your Senators to co-sponsor a similar amendment either in committee or during Senate debate of the Climate Bill on the full floor.

Carbon Offset Registry (Sec. 733 of H.R. 2454)
With passage of the House Climate Bill, "urban tree planting and maintenance" officially became an eligible carbon offset expense. The language still needs to be approved in the Senate bill, but no action is required.

Urban Revitalization and Livable Communities Act
Status: Introduced in House Oct. 6, 2009
Formerly known as UPARR, H.R. 3734 will rehabilitate and improve urban parks and recreational infrastructure and revitalize communities by increasing economic development, improving public health, increasing daily physical activity, reconnecting children with nature, reducing crime, and providing safe, healthy alternatives for at-risk youth.

Action:
None yet. ACT is working to assemble a diverse coalition of organizations to advocate for this bill and secure additional co-sponsors.
