(Washington, DC)- The journal Nature published a study that found nearly one-fifth of fossil fuel emissions are absorbed by forests across Africa, Amazonia, and Asia. The study found that on average the trees are getting bigger and absorbing more CO2, contrary to the theory that mature forests are carbon neutral as a result of the carbon absorbed by new trees being balanced by that released from old trees dying.

San Francisco Zipcar Lets Charity Workers Drive Free
(San Francisco, CA)- To help Bay Area nonprofits survive a massive donation slump, the Zipcar car-sharing service has begun letting charity workers drive its cars for free. Volunteers who help seniors switch their analog televisions to digital, after-school art teachers, environmentalists with trees to plant, and Big Brothers and Sisters who mentor kids are now driving around town on Zipcar's dime.
