NATIONAL NEWS
A tree grows (and dies) in Brooklyn
(New York, NY)- A New York City program to plant 1 million trees across the five boroughs has many people cheering. For others, only a Bronx cheer will do. Since the MillionTreesNYC initiative was launched two years ago, more than 220,000 have been placed in parks, in squares carved out of sidewalks, in cemeteries and on private property- but not without loud and sometimes hostile objections.

LOCAL STORY
New species and irrigation to combat climate change
(Edmonton, Canada)- Edmonton's urban forest could sprout a slightly different look under the city's first management plan expected by the end of the year. People are used to thinking about the city's "grey" infrastructure, such as sewers and roads, but this "green" infrastructure is also important and worth managing, said Jenny Wheeler, Edmonton's principal of forestry.
