NATIONAL NEWS
Thank you for speaking up for U&CF!
(Washington, DC)- Last week you took action to save the Urban & Community Forestry Program from being repealed. Thanks to your calls, emails, tweets and Facebook posts, the amendment did not pass— it didn’t even receive a vote! This kind of grassroots action supports urban and community forestry efforts nationwide, benefiting all of us. The U&CF Program was upheld in the Senate Farm Bill, but later this summer the House will write and pass its own version. The House is expected to demand deeper cuts, so your voice may be needed again to preserve support for U&CF.

LOCAL STORY
L.A. Climate Study shows need for Cooling Effect of Tree Canopy
(Los Angeles, CA)- The City of Los Angeles has announced findings from one of the most sophisticated regional climate studies ever produced. The bottom line: it’s going to get hot. L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says this research lays the groundwork for local governments, utilities, and others to prepare for climate change. This includes expanding the use and number of ‘green’ and ‘cool’ roofs, cool pavements, tree canopies and parks.
