Bon Voyage to Jared Liu

College Park, MD (June 1, 2010)- Our much respected Director of Programs, Jared Liu, will be departing Alliance for Community Trees at the end of the month. While I am sad to see Jared leave after five years of dedicated service to ACT in which he accomplished so much for our organization, I am happy that he is making a move that he and his family have been working toward.

Jared has accepted an admissions position with Hackley School in Tarrytown, NY, starting in early July. This move will allow him to be much closer to family and be tied in with the boarding school world. These were two long term goals for Jared’s family, so please join me in wishing Jared the very best in his new endeavors.

Jared has been a great asset to ACT. In the last five years, Jared more than doubled membership, expanded communications and member support, helped launch and improve NeighborWoods, mobilized members in advocacy, and revamped our technology infrastructure, among many other accomplishments. ACT board vice president, Ray Tretheway, writes, “In tree jargon I would say he is of the best timber grown on this good earth. How fortunate for us at ACT to be the recipient of his excellence and dedication in pursuit of our mission.”

A last contribution to ACT was training his replacement. Leland Milstein has been working closely with Jared over the last year to assume responsibility for grantmaking, member services, and program development. He will be assuming additional responsibilities in the coming weeks, and I am confident he will do a great job (he learned from the best.)

Tree Cheers to Jared Liu – we will surely miss him and wish him all the very best!
