Sebring, FL (August 22, 2010)- Saturday morning’s clear blue sky served as a backdrop to the lush green of Firemen’s Field. Speckled within were dots of orange as a host of Home Depot workers moved about in helping with some improvements around the Sebring football field.
“It was part of a grant we applied for with Home Depot,” Sebring Firemen President Steve Mackay said. “We were able to get it this year and have about 25-30 employees of Home Depot who donate a day to come out here and do painting, landscaping and just fixing things up from the locker room to the grandstand.”
With the Blue Streaks preparing for their home opener Friday, Sept. 3 against Lake Placid, the peripheral aspects of their home turf were getting prepared as well. Turning over flower beds, trimming the trees, working on irrigation and painting various portions of the Fieldhouse and the bleachers, the sweat was starting to glisten even before the summer sun started really heating up for the day.
The Home Depot employees weren’t alone, of course, as perhaps a dozen Firemen and family members got into the mix to help out. “They’ve been big sponsors with us and have really helped with our golf tournaments,” Mackay said. “It’s a real nice relationship that helps give back to the community.” Coming together to give back and just make things a little nicer – showing even the brightest of days can be made a little brighter.
