Jacksonville School Goes Green with Community Partners

Jacksonville, FL (May 23, 2012)- Local companies joined forces with community partners and national nonprofits on Saturday to rejuvenate the campus of Matthew Gilbert Middle School in East Jacksonville. Volunteers from CSX, JaxPort, and the community worked with City Year and Alliance for Community Trees on a project organized locally by the community greening nonprofit (and local ACTrees member organization) Greenscape of Jacksonville.

During a hot morning over 120 volunteers planted over 50 large trees and shrubs, pruned existing greenery, landscaped new flower and plant beds, constructed mural benches, removed dead trees and more. The work was part of Trees for Tracks, a partnership between CSX, City Year and ACTrees to plant 21,000 trees-one for every mile of track in the CSX network.
