Seattle, WA (February 5, 2010)- EarthCorps is a nonprofit organization founded in 1993 with a mission to build global community through local environmental service. As an AmeriCorps affiliate, EarthCorps provides one-year intensive programs for young adults (18-25) to learn best practices in conservation techniques and develop skills in leading volunteers (ages 8-80).
EarthCorps envisions a global community of young environmental leaders and engaged citizens working to build strong local communities that support healthy habitats. EarthCorps’ programs bring together young people from the USA and around the world to work, learn, and grow. Their efforts unite best practices in environmental restoration with a community-based approach to service, education and action. Together with a global network of partners, volunteers and friends, EarthCorps restores key ecological sites around the Puget Sound region and around the world.
EarthCorps’ key values are sustainability, diversity, integrity, and service. EarthCorps’ programs, such as the Corps program for young adults ages 18-25 and its volunteer program for all ages, create a sense of community ownership and responsibility for our natural resources, foster cross-cultural and intergenerational understanding, promote civic engagement, and encourage volunteerism.
