Covington, GA (August 9, 2007)- Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful (KCNB) is dedicated to challenging, motivating, and inspiring everyone to take responsibility for a clean and beautiful community. They are one of more than 540 certified affiliates of Keep America Beautiful, a nonprofit public education organization dedicated to environmentally improving communities. KCNB is also an affiliate of Keep Georgia Beautiful. KCNB is a key element of local plans for Covington, Newton County, Oxford, and Porterdale for compliance with the EPA’s stormwater program to protect and improve the quality of streams and rivers.
Locally, the KCNB Board is made up of 70+ citizens who serve on eight committees and work with KCNB staff to bring environmental awareness to our community. KCNB’s committees are: the Business/Industry Committee; the Community Organizations Committee; the Communications Committee; the Government Operations Committee; the Water Sub-Committee; the Schools and Education Committee; and the Recycling Committee. According to the Cost Benefit Analysis, for every $1 spent by local government, over $4.23 worth of benefits are returned to our community.
With help from their beloved raccoon mascot, Detective Seymore Green, and our dedicated volunteers, they educate the citizens of Newton County about environmental problems, impacts, and solutions. They organize, coordinate, and promote volunteer programs that focus on our mission and build greater environmental awareness in Newton County.
Their efforts center around three top priorities: Litter Prevention, Beautification and Community Programs, and Waste Reduction and Recycling. Within Beautification and Community Programs, KCNB operates the following programs:
* “Great American Cleanup”
* Entrance Site Beautification
* “Enviroscape” Demonstrations
