One Tree for Every Mile of Track

Philadelphia, PA (September 3, 2009)- On September 26, CSX will kick-off a monumental initiative – the planting of one tree for every mile of the 21,000 miles of track across its vast network. The program, aptly named “Trees for Tracks,” is the company’s promise to plant more trees than it must remove to maintain clear views of tracks and ensure safe passage.

“CSX is committed to making a positive impact on the communities in which we live and do business,” said Tori Kaplan, CSX Director of Corporate Citizenship. “Not only does planting trees improve air quality and offset carbon emissions, but trees act as noise buffers provide healthy homes for wildlife and add beauty to our world.” The initiative is being made possible in part by a collaboration between CSX, long-time partner City Year and the grassroots organization, Alliance for Community Trees (ACT).

“Alliance for Community Trees is thrilled to partner with CSX to make communities cleaner, greener, and healthier through the Trees for Tracks initiative,” said Alice Ewen Walker, ACT Executive Director. “CSX is an outstanding hands-on partner. We could not be happier with the direction this program is taking.”
Additional Trees for Tracks events are currently scheduled in the following cities:
October 10, 2009 – Baltimore, MD
November 14, 2009 – Atlanta, GA
January 9, 2010 – Miami, FL
