Savannah, GA (September 21, 2009)- Walkers, hikers, birders, and nature enthusiasts are invited to join the Savannah Tree Foundation, project partner City of Savannah, and project sponsors Aquafina, the Alliance for Community Trees & the Home Depot Foundation from 9:00 a.m. — 12:00 noon at the 3rd annual National Public Lands Day event at Bacon Park Forest on Saturday, October 10th, 2009.
The Savannah Tree Foundation is holding its National Public Lands Day activities on a special date, Saturday, October 10th, in lieu of the national day of service being observed on September 26th. The change of date allows the organization to observe National Public Lands Day as part of its National NeighborWoods Month activities, which offers a unique opportunity for people to understand the contributions of trees to the health, beauty, and livability of their communities.
Volunteers will help install back-country style natural walking trails in Bacon Park Forest. The work plan includes trail clearing activities which can be physically demanding work. Volunteers should be sure to wear long sleeved shirts, long pants and closed-toe shoes with socks, and may bring work gloves, bypass pruners and pruning shears if they have them. Community service hours and tools will be provided. Plenty of refreshments and water courtesy of Aquafina will be provided to keep volunteers hydrated and fed. This NeighborWoods Month event features free Camelbak bottles and T-shirts courtesy of the Alliance for Community Trees & The Home Depot Foundation.
Onsite parking is available at the intersection of Skidaway Road and Bonna Bella Drive. For more information on Savannah Tree Foundation’s 2009 NTD event, please visit our website at www.savannahtreefoundation.com or contact STF at 233-TREE for more details.
