California Climate Registry Urban Forest Project Protocol

Davis, CA (July 1, 2008)- The California Climate Action Registry is in its final review stages. At the beginning of June, nearly two years of work came to an end with the draft of the Urban Forest Project Protocol to the California Climate Action Registry. Since then, the team has made adjustments to the Protocol to suit the overarching policy framework of the California Registry as well as the Climate Action Reserve.

The recent adjustments include:
* Significant change to the performance standard itself as well as to the way compliance with the performance standard is assessed.
* A performance standard for utility companies has been added.
* Changes have been made to the tree maintenance plan requirements.
* The sections on GHG benefits due to energy conservation and use of trees as a bioenergy fuel source have been moved to an Annex.
* Deductions for error margins associated with sampling have been quantified.
The project now enters the public comment period and workshop. Please take a moment to review the latest draft and share it widely. Comments are due August 4 and can be addressed to policy@climateregistry.org.
The California Registry will hold a public workshop July 29, 1-4pm PDT at the Cal/EPA Headquarters in Sacramento to discuss the Urban Forest Project Reporting Protocol and answer questions.
