Cultivate Diversity: Mix It Up for Healthy NeighborWoods
Feast with the Stars is Parkway Partners’ annual fundraising jazz brunch and silent auction. Held in historic Gallier Hall (New Orleans’ original city hall), the event attracts hundreds of guests and features local media celebrities who support Parkway Partners’ efforts to motivate and educate New Orleans residents to create and maintain public green space. New Orleans restaurants donate and serve food and beverages and a strolling jazz band provides entertainment. New Orleans artists decorate birdhouses, which are sold to the highest bidders, along with auction items donated by New Orleans merchants. Sharing the stage with Entertainment at the Feast is Education. Each of Parkway Partners’ programs is featured in a different room of the Greek revival mansion, where guests view oversized photographs of agency volunteers in action, watch PowerPoint slideshows treating the issues addressed by Parkway Partners, and peruse agency literature. Parkway Partners’ top post-Katrina priority is ReLeaf New Orleans- the agency’s citywide post-Katrina reforestation campaign- and it is heavily promoted at the Feast.

Purpose: To celebrate the benefits of trees in the places people live. During National NeighborWoods Month, we want to share the message that planting and caring for trees adds value to our communities. Trees are not just a local concern but a national one as well. Your participation in National NeighborWoods Month not only enhances your community’s health, but also furthers our collective efforts to ensure that everyone gets to live in neighborhoods with trees.
Note: National NeighborWoods Month is part of the National NeighborWoods program, an initiative to re-green North American cities from coast to coast. The National NeighborWoods initiative is a program of the national Alliance for Community Trees in partnership with The Home Depot Foundation.
