New ACT Member- Burten, Bell, Carr Development

Cleveland, OH (February 4, 2010)- The mission of Burten, Bell, Carr Development is to enhance the quality of life for residents of Ward 5 by initiating and cultivating housing, retail, employment, and recreation opportunities through effective partnerships with residents, community groups, government, corporations and institutions.

It has initiated the establishment of social enterprises, organizations with the objective of capturing a triple bottom line that would take into account people, the environment, and profit. A portion of the Forgotten Triangle has potential to become a thriving area in which a variety of plants for different purposes are grown.
The project, entitled the Urban Agriculture Innovation Zone, will become a producer of local food and bio-fuels, clean contaminated land with phyto-remediation, and detain storm water runoff. A portion of the Urban Agriculture Innovation Zone could be used for an Urban Tree Farm in which trees can be grown and sold for use in city streets, institution campuses, and new developments. It would become the first of its kind in the country.
BBC actively strives for the streets of the Central, Kinsman, and Garden Valley neighborhoods to have an aesthetically enriched, beautiful appearance that inspires community and encourages investment in properties.
Implemented in 2009, the Neighborhood Landscape Enterprise is a program of BBC that employs residents of BBC’s neighborhoods to beautify residential and commercial properties. These crew members have the opportunity to pursue a degree in Plant Science and Landscape Technology. Other benefits are that funds paid for services are recycled back into the community, develops the local tax base, increases community pride, and enhances the overall quality of life for residents.
Lastly, the agency is involved in the establishment of greenspace throughout the Central, Kinsman, and Garden Valley neighborhoods for recreation and leisure.
