New ACT Member- City of Carmel

Carmel, IN (July 25, 2007)- Through the Department of Community Services, the City of Carmel oversees most of the planning and installation of all street trees and other landscaping. The City is responsible for maintenance of all trees within the public right-of-way and public service easement. Although the majority of the program is directed through the Department of Community Services, the Carmel Parks and Recreation Department, the Carmel Street Department, and City Utilities Department also have responsibility for trees in many areas of the City. These various responsibilities and the means by which they are carried out are specified in a series of ordinances, standards, and planning documents adopted by the City Council.

The City of Carmel Urban Forestry Committee envisions a future of the Urban Forest as a healthy, diverse, colorful, display of canopy trees lining the streets and throughout the City, which provides an environment which sustains wildlife and is accessible to every resident.
The purpose of the Urban Forestry Committee is to assist, advise, and develop urban forestry programs for the City of Carmel; while also helping direct a well funded, cost-effective program and to attract different sources of funding. Through their efforts, they will continually update and modify the urban forestry program as well as participate in activities that emphasize education and maintenance of the urban forest.
