Kealakekua, HI (June 11, 2007)- TREE Center Hawaii (Tropical Reforestation & Ecosystems Education) is dedicated to the conservation of and education about native Hawaiian ecosystems. Based on Hawai’i Island, they engage children and adults in learning about the value of native forests, by participating in hands-on educational activities and assisting with native habitat restoration.
TREE Center Hawaii began as a program of the Kona Soil and Water Conservation District in 1994 and grew into an independent organization in 1996. Today, TREE programs that connect people to the land by linking environmental education to restoration, with a focus on natural resource management and stewardship. Programs are based on Hawai’i Island and work is primarily in West Hawai’i.
Their programs include:
* Restoration sites partnerships with private landowners, the State of Hawai’i, and the National Park Service to provide educational and restoration services.
* Educational programs in the greenhouse and in the forest.
