Sustainable Sites Public Comments Available

Washington, DC (May 5, 2009)- Public comments on the Guidelines and Performance Benchmarks Draft 2008 are now posted on the Sustainable Sites Initiative website for review. A diverse group of professionals responded through an online comment format, including landscape architects, horticulturists, landscape designers, contractors, arborists, ecologists, government employees, and employees of nonprofit organizations.

Over 350 respondents provided input during the public comment period for the draft report released last November. One third of the public comments were on behalf of organizations. All comments are currently under review by Sustainable Sites Initiative committees and staff as public input is critical to the development of the final guidelines and performance benchmarks report, to be released in late 2009.
Sustainable Sites Presentations
The Sustainable Sites Initiative has developed a presentation available for download on the website. The presentation, An Overview of the Sustainable Sites Initiative, provides general audiences with an introduction to the history, mission and products of the Initiative, including statistics on sustainable land practices and highlights of the latest draft report.
Sustainable Site Case Studies
The Sustainable Sites Initiative is increasing the library of case studies that illustrates sustainable landscape practices at various stages of development. There are currently fifteen case studies online that address a wide variety of sustainable practices, such as stormwater management, integrated design process, habitat restoration, material management and others. The Initiative will continue to build the case study library from the 100 plus projects submitted in Spring 2008.
