Cultivate Diversity: Mix It Up for Healthy NeighborWoods
Greenscape of Jacksonville has taken action to assist in an effort to improve a neighborhood that has been challenged by socio economic factors and identified as a recipient of Mayor Peytonâs Seeds of Change initiative. As part of the Jacksonville Journey, Mayor John Peyton launched a program to improve neighborhoods as an element in an overall effort to decrease crime. While many elements of the initiative are citywide, some programs focus on smaller areas targeted as pilot projects. One of those pilot projects is Historic Arlington, the location of the Grande Oaks Townhomes, a 200 unit rental property, managed by DACS Investments. Seeds of Change: Growing Great Neighborhoods is Mayor Peyton’s partnership with residents, neighborhood associations, business and community and faith based leaders to drive meaningful, measurable and visible change in neighborhoods across Jacksonville. DACS Investments, JEA, and the City of Jacksonville are working closely to identify new methods to reduce crime and provide a site for safe family living. The project utilizes the concept of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), which contends a climate of safety can be attained through planning, landscape design and law enforcement.

Purpose: To celebrate the benefits of trees in the places people live. During National NeighborWoods Month, we want to share the message that planting and caring for trees adds value to our communities. Trees are not just a local concern but a national one as well. Your participation in National NeighborWoods Month not only enhances your community’s health, but also furthers our collective efforts to ensure that everyone gets to live in neighborhoods with trees.
Note: National NeighborWoods Month is part of the National NeighborWoods program, an initiative to re-green North American cities from coast to coast. The National NeighborWoods initiative is a program of the national Alliance for Community Trees in partnership with The Home Depot Foundation.
