Tree planting helps to make communities green

Pittsburgh, PA (October 28, 2010)- It was root, root, root for volunteers who planted trees on Sunday in Wilkinsburg’s Holmes Park. They did so on behalf of the Nine Mile Run Watershed Association. Volunteers did the same thing Saturday along Schoyer Avenue in Swissvale.

Here, Lisa Brown of the Nine Mile Run Watershed Association discusses the benefits of planting urban trees and the importance of trees in maintaining and improving the Watershed.

These regreening efforts were among many undertaken nationwide during October, which was declared National NeighborWoods Month by Alliance for Community Trees, a national nonprofit. National NeighborWoods Month is sponsored through a grant from The Home Depot Foundation.
