Washington, DC (November 1, 2009)- As part of the Digital Coast Partnership Group, NACo announces the release of the Coastal Inundation Toolkit, which contains tools and information counties need to understand and address coastal flooding issues.
The inundation mapping guidebook is the cornerstone component of the toolkit and these instructions show counties how to discover and map what is likely to flood. In addition to data and tools, the site provides basic information about coastal inundation, how to best communicate risk information, and how other counties are developing and using risk assessments.
The toolkit is an example of how the data, tools, and other information within Digital Coast can be used to address one of the five partner-priority issues of coastal conservation, hazards, land use, marine planning, and water quality. The toolkit provides the context and guidance for connecting the resources in the Digital Coast to the needs of coastal managers.
The Digital Coast Partnership is: Association of State Floodplain Managers, Coastal States Organization, National Association of Counties, National States Geographic Information Council, The Nature Conservancy, and NOAA Coastal Services Center.
