The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an experienced Supervisor to plan, administer, and direct all functions, and provide for the efficient organization and operation of all phases, of the Campus Urban Forestry Program, Campus Tree Inventory, and maintenance of the Tree Campus USA accreditation.

University of Texas Austin TreesThe Supervisor of Urban Forestry will manage the day-to-day operations of the Campus Tree Program to include preventative maintenance and tree replacement program. Maintains the Campus Tree Inventory and the Tree Campus USA accreditation. Provides technical expertise to include tree planting, pruning, removal, health care and safety procedures. Inspects damaged and diseased tree to determine appropriate corrective action. Develops and supervises fertilization, insect and disease control programs. Provides technical direction to contractors and University personnel to provide tree protection and ensure the best possible conditions for the trees and are maintained during construction.

Represents UT in working with non-profit groups, campus organizations, and city government to promote the benefit of trees in urban areas as well as provide technical assistance and guidance. Supervise assigned staff to include the planning and management of staff development, training, evaluations, support, discipline, counseling, and safety/health policies with efforts focused on maintaining a highly trained and motivated staff so that the needs of Landscape Services, Facilities Services, and the University are met on time and staff are kept on-task at all times.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in in Forestry, Horticulture, Resource Conservation or related field including formal coursework in urban forestry and arboricultural techniques. Five years experience in urban forestry, arboriculture. Two years supervisory experience. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Licenses and Certification: Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record, current Certified Arborist Certificate from the International Society of Arboriculture, and Pesticide Applicators License as certified by the Texas Department of Agriculture or obtain within the first six (6) months of service.
