TreeLink Moves to Alliance for Community Trees

College Park, MD (April 23, 2012)- The Alliance for Community Trees network is growing. ACTrees announces that TreeLink and its iTreeBank Program are now a part of Alliance for Community Trees. This is a result of many months of deliberation and collaboration by the leadership of both organizations.

2012 ACTrees Green Infrastructure Summit

Alliance for Community Trees held its fourth annual Public Policy Summit on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in Washington, DC. This year's event on Capitol Hill focused on national public policy and educating Congressional leaders about green solutions to environmental, health, and economic challenges facing cities.

ACTrees Applauds Introduction of Energy Conservation Through Trees Act

Washington, DC (June 3, 2011)- The Alliance for Community Trees strongly supports the Energy Conservation Through Trees Act introduced yesterday by Rep. Doris Matsui. This legislation, H.R. 2095, would support programs run by electric utilities that use targeted planting of shade trees in order to reduce residential energy demand. ACTrees staff and board members worked closely with the Congresswoman to develop the Act, which would encourage utility companies to partner with local nonprofit tree organizations to plant shade trees.

ACT and Boise Collaborate to Restore Urban Parks

Bensenville, IL (April 22, 2011)- Boise Inc. is launching Project UP, a new civic sustainability initiative through its Boise ASPEN brand of recycled papers. Project UP seeks to transform distressed urban spaces throughout North America into revitalized, usable parks for communities to enjoy. To achieve this, Boise has partnered with the Alliance for Community Trees (ACT). ACT is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the environment where people live and work through tree planting, care, conservation and education.

Carrie Gallagher Appointed Executive Director of Alliance for Community Trees

College Park, MD (March 14, 2011)- Carrie Gallagher has been named Executive Director of Alliance for Community Trees (ACT), effective April 4, 2011, announced Ray Tretheway, President of ACT's Board of Directors. ACT is a national nonprofit dedicated to improving the health and livability of cities by planting and caring for trees. With nearly 200 local affiliates in 41 states, ACT is a national leader in creating greener, cleaner, and healthier communities.

2011 Green Infrastructure Summit

The Alliance for Community Trees' third annual Green Infrastructure Summit was a day-long event to educate Congressional leaders about solutions to urban environmental health and livability. With over 100 new members in Congress, there was much work to be done to educate our leaders on the value of trees in our communities.

ACT Members Benefit from National "All At Once" Campaign

College Park, MD (July 21, 2010)- Several Alliance for Community Trees (ACT) member organizations are participating in the 2010 All At Once fundraising campaign sponsored by musician Jack Johnson. As part of the All At Once campaign, Jack Johnson's 2010 To The Sea concert tour is collaborating with over 150 community groups focusing on environmental issues and hands-on community projects, including tree planting.

Bon Voyage to Jared Liu

College Park, MD (June 1, 2010)- Our much respected Director of Programs, Jared Liu, will be departing Alliance for Community Trees at the end of the month. While I am sad to see Jared leave after five years of dedicated service to ACT in which he accomplished so much for our organization, I am happy that he is making a move that he and his family have been working toward.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program

Deadline: June 25, 2010

The EECBG Program provides Federal grants to States, units of local government, Indian Tribes, and consortia of these entities to reduce energy use and fossil fuel emissions, and for energy efficiency programs and projects.

ACT Applauds Introduction of Senate SBA Tree Planting Bill

Reauthorization recognizes that trees and green space are good for business

College Park, Md. (April 30, 2010)- The Alliance for Community Trees (ACT) today commended Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) for introducing S. 3279, A bill to reauthorize the national small business tree planting program. This legislation recognizes the critical role that the built environment- including green infrastructure- plays in order for small businesses to be able to create jobs, promote energy efficiency, and provide positive customer experiences.

Earth Day 2010

College Park, MD (April 22, 2010)- The original Earth Day events were attended by 20 million Americans- to this day among the largest participation in a political action in the nation's history. On the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, we celebrate a movement that is more diverse, with partners coming together from across all sectors, to solve problems that are more complicated than ever.
