The Alliance for Community Trees was founded as a public interest nonprofit organization servicing the needs of grassroots, local nonprofit urban and community forestry groups. ACT is the catalyst for the fast-growing field of citizen-forestry. ACT’s concern is the environment where 80% of Americans live and work: out cities, towns, and villages. Trees anchor a healthy urban ecology, and ACT is the problem-solving and best-practice center for engaging community volunteers to plant and protect trees. Almost 15 years later, the founding purpose remains intact and carries many benefits.
