New ACTrees Member- Philadelphia Orchard Project
Philadelphia, PA (January 4, 2012)- Philadelphia Orchard Project (POP) works with community-based groups and volunteers to plan and plant orchards filled with useful and edible plants. POP provides the plants, trees, and training. Community organizations own, maintain, and harvest the orchards, expanding community-based food production. Orchards are planted in formerly vacant lots, community gardens, schoolyards, and other spaces, almost exclusively in low-wealth neighborhoods where people lack access to fresh fruit.
New ACTrees Member- Klehm Arboretum
Rockford, IL (November 15, 2011)- The mission of the Klehm Arboretum is to enrich people’s lives through education, environmental experiences, and enjoyment in a unique arboretum and botanic garden. Arboretum has an assortment of plant life unlike any other natural area in the United States. The combination of native plants and those from around the world provides a unique botanical resource. The site includes many unique species from throughout the United States that normally do not thrive in this region, plus the Midwest’s most vigorous evergreen collection.
New ACTrees Member- Town of Wake Forest
Wake Forest, NC (November 8, 2011)- The Town of Wake Forest, North Carolina boasts an Urban Forestry Board to oversee the town's trees management practices. The Urban Forestry Board also advises the Board of Commissioners on policies relating to trees and landscape regulations.
