Keeping Cool in Oak Park Urban Forest Festival

July 28, 2007
Sacramento, CA

The nonprofit Sacramento Tree Foundation invites the Sacramento community to join them for a free urban forest community festival. "Keeping Cool in Oak Park" will celebrate the shade trees of McClatchy Park in the Oak Park neighborhood. From 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the park will be alive with the sounds of music and dance of Sacramento's Capoeira Brazilian Arts Center.

Performances by San Francisco based Loco Bloco will highlight the event. Loco Bloco is a performing arts program for children, teens and young adults rooted in the multi-ethnic Mission District of San Francisco. The group provides young people with a "hands on" introduction to musical, dance and theater traditions of the Americas, as well as access to express themselves on stages internationally. Other activities will include a climbing wall and obstacle course.

"Keeping Cool in Oak Park" is part of a year long 25th anniversary celebration of the Sacramento Tree Foundation -dedicated to building the best urban forest for the Sacramento region. "25 years is a great time to stop and take a day to celebrate Sacramento," says Ray Tretheway, Executive Director of the Sacramento Tree Foundation.

As part of the day's activities, Councilmember Lauren Hammond and Larry Carr from SMUD's Board of Directors will be on hand to help commemorate the Tree Foundation's 25th anniversary event. Exhibits from local service groups will offer educational experiences for folks of all ages.
