National Environmental Education Week
April 16 to 22, 2006
Washington, DC (April 4, 2006)- Hundreds of organizations across the United States - representing leading environmental education organizations, educational institutions, and federal, state and local agencies. This makes it the single largest environmental education event in the U.S. It is a full week of educational preparedness for Earth Day and will involve some 400,000 educators and 3 million students.
NEEW is designed to increase the educational impact of Earth Day and build support for more environmental education in schools as well as develop leadership and stewardship skills in future decision-makers.
Whether it is a classroom curriculum, a conference, a field trip, a hike or a local festival at a nature center, organizations participating in National Environmental Education Week will celebrate environmental learning. Some NEETF partner organizations plan to do the following activities at the national, state and local level:
Creating a backyard or schoolyard habitat.
Planting a tree native to your state.
Starting a recycling program either in your school, at home, or within the community.
Creating a campaign to encourage biking or walking.
Adopting a nearby lake, stream, aquarium, museum, or nature center.
Taking an educator's training course from such organizations as Project Learning Tree, Project Wild, Project Wet, and many more.

About National Environmental Education & Training Foundation
Chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1990, the National Environmental Education & Education Training Foundation fosters environmental education or EE to meet critical challenges in America. This private, nonprofit organization is dedicated to increasing public awareness of environmental issues, helping professionals in healthcare, teaching, design, engineering and media become environmentally savvy, and enabling business, government and community leaders to become environmentally informed when making decisions. To this end, NEETF works to create informal and formal connections between policymakers, business, citizen groups and individuals. It provides grants, develops training workshops, strengthens leadership initiatives and supports volunteerism to better health, improve education, promote business profitability and sustain communities. The foundation also has a formal partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to support scientifically sound and effective development of non-regulatory voluntary programs for environmental stewardship.
