NYC Minority Youth Environmental Training Institute
September 29- October 2, 2006
New York City
The National Hispanic Environmental Council (NHEC) announces the first annual NYC Minority Youth Environmental Training Institute. The Institute is for educators, NHEC members, supporters, and community leaders, and is being held in conjunction with and is funded by the Northeast Region of the National Park Service (NPS), and will be held at several national parks in the NY area, including Gateway National Park in Staten Island and Fire Island National Seashore, on Long Island.
The NHEC-NPS Institute is an intensive, hands-on, science-based, four-day environmental program for talented teenagers ages 16-18, selected competitively from across the NYC area. The Institute is designed to not only teach students about the environment, but also introduce them to the National Park Service and their great mission. NPS is actively seeking to recruit talented minority teens (and others) to come work for them, now and in the future.
Through a full scholarship, NHEC will pay all costs for students accepted into the Institute. Students and parents should read the attached material together. Also included are materials for environmental professionals interested in serving as "Role Models" at the Institute.
