Sacramento Tree Foundation Plants Trees with Two Rivers Elementary
June 2, 2007
Sacramento, CA
Volunteers from Two Rivers Elementary in partnership with the Sacramento Tree Foundation will plant 10 trees on the school campus. These trees will provide shade for classrooms and the bus stop. Tupelos, redspire pears, crape myrtles and red oaks will provide a variety of shapes and colors to the landscape as well as producing some much needed cool, leafy canopy.
When: Saturday, June 2, 8 am to 12 pm
Who: Volunteers and Sacramento Tree Foundation staff
What: Planting 10 trees to shade classrooms and bus loading zone
Where: Two Rivers Elementary school, 3201 West River Drive 95833
The Natomas Community Foundation and River Oaks Community Association are joining in this effort to improve their local schools. Volunteers from both groups will be on hand to help dig holes and engage school kids in the process of learning about nature. The tree planting is just one of several activities that weekend for River Oaks Clean Up Day.
The Sacramento Tree Foundation in partnership with SMUD is providing these free energy saving shade trees to parks, schools, parking lots and homes. These shade trees can help reduce summer cooling costs. In addition, these trees provide multiple health benefits for young children, including cleaning the air and providing shade resulting in lower incidences of skin cancer.
This planting event, run by the Tree Foundation's NeighborWoods program continues the Tree Foundation's year long 25th anniversary, celebrating building the best urban forest for the Sacramento region.
