2007 Alabama Community Forestry Program

Deadline: August 31, 2007

The Alabama Power Foundation now is accepting applications for grants up to $2,000 to buy trees for planting by local governments, community groups, and others. The foundation is working with the Alabama Urban Forestry Association in accepting applications for the 2007 Community Forestry Program.

During the past eight years, more than $400,000 has been distributed in tree grants to nearly 400 cities, counties, schools, and community groups, according to Michael Sznajderman, a communications representative with Alabama Power Co. Grants have been used to buy thousands of trees for planting in community parks, along roadways and on school grounds, among other sites.

The project is open to local governments, nonprofit groups and public and private schools and colleges and universities. Winners will be notified no later than November 15.
