Green Communities Program

Rockwell Collins' environmental initiative, the Green Communities Program, is designed to help fund environmental projects in the communities in which the company operates.

The program also recognizes and rewards Rockwell Collins employees and retirees for participation in these projects.

2006 grant awards will range from $500 - $2500 for grassroots environmental efforts, spearheaded by nonprofit or nongovernmental organizations around the world. Applications will be accepted from January 2 through March 3, 2006, with winning projects being announced in conjunction with Earth Day activities, April 22, 2006.

Purpose of the Program
The Rockwell Collins Environmental Management Policy includes a commitment to participate in environmental conservation projects that benefit the communities in which we operate. The Green Communities program is intended to help fund environmental projects undertaken by non-profit entities for the benefit of the communities in which Rockwell Collins operates.

Eligible Projects
Projects eligible for grant awards must result in improvement in the environmental condition of the community. Examples include conservation of natural resources and raw materials, improvement of impacts on environmental media (air, water, and land), and restoration or development of ecological habitats or aesthetics. Academic research projects or studies are not generally eligible, although consideration will be given to educational projects for K-12 public schools. Only projects conducted or sponsored by 501(c)3 organizations are eligible. Grants may not be used to fund the organization's administrative or operational activities. Applicants may re-apply each year; however, preference will be given to projects that will be completed in the year of the grant award. Typical awards will range from $500 to $2,500 each.

Application Process
Applicants must demonstrate 501(c)3 status and submit the attached application, which includes a description of the project and the environmental benefits anticipated. Applications must be complete to be considered. Applications will be accepted from January 2, 2006 through March 3, 2006.

Selection Process
The Green Communities Grant Review Committee will consist of representatives from Rockwell Collins Environment, Safety & Health, Community Relations, Government Affairs, Enterprise Communications, and local Rockwell Collins leadership. Among the criteria the Committee will use to judge project applications are:

* Participation in the project by Rockwell Collins employees and/or retirees
* Tangible environmental benefits of the project
* Sustainability of the project benefits
* Completion of the project within the calendar year of the grant award
* Agreement to participate in publicizing the grant and the completed project

The projects selected as potential winners of grants will be reviewed by Rockwell Collins Senior Vice President, Operations and Senior Vice President, Human Resources. Following their approval, grant winners and the participating Rockwell Collins employees will be notified of the awards. Rockwell Collins will publicly announce grant winners just prior to Earth Day, April 22, 2006.

Additional Project Requirements
Grantees may be required to provide interim status reports on progress of the project, depending on the length and complexity of the project and the anticipated completion date. At completion, Rockwell Collins will meet with the grantees to view the results of the completed project. Rockwell Collins will ask for documentation on project completion (e.g., photographs) and implementation, which may be used for internal and external company communications.
