Michigan Community Forestry Grants

Deadline: August 30, 2007

Applications are now available for the Department of Natural Resource's (DNR) Community Forestry Grant (CFG) program. These grants are funded through the USDA Forest Service, State and Private Forestry Program.

Through this program, local units of government (cities, villages, townships and counties), non-profit organizations, tribes and educational institutions are eligible to apply for funding to enhance urban and community forest resources. This year, approximately $100,000 will be awarded Statewide for projects that can help communities enhance the benefits of trees, incorporate new technology, promote volunteerism, conserve and/or expand community tree cover and stimulate community pride and support for this valuable resource.

Funding this year will again be focused on Management and Planning activities, including: community tree inventories, community tree ordinance development/revision, and developing assessment-based management plans for the community forest resource. Proposals will also be accepted for education/training activities, and tree planting.

To apply, visit the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
