Prudential Spirit of Commmunity Awards

Deadline: October 31, 2006

Does your organization work with outstanding young volunteers? They deserve recognition and the chance to expand their horizons. Consider partnering with your local school to nominate an outstanding young person for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honor young people in grades 5 through 12 who have demonstrated exemplary voluntary service to their communities. The program was created in 1995 and is sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Over the past twelve years, the program has honored more than 70,000 young volunteers at the local, state, and national levels.

Local Honorees are judged at the state level, with 102 State Honorees from the 50 United States and the District of Columbia to be named in February 2007. Each State Honoree will receive $1,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, DC, (May 5-8, 2007) with a parent or guardian. While in Washington, ten National Honorees will be chosen. Each of the ten National Honorees receives an additional $5,000, a gold medallion, and a crystal trophy for his or her school.

Students may be nominated by their school or by local Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, American Red Cross Chapters, YMCAs, and member Volunteer Centers of the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network.
