Shell Marine Habitat Program Offers Funding for Gulf Projects
Deadline: September 1, 2006 (Pre-proposals)
A partnership between the Shell Oil Company and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Shell Marine Habitat program provides grants for projects that benefit marine habitat in and around the Gulf of Mexico. The program's project area includes the gulf coasts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, and the gulf coast of Florida from Tampa north and west through the panhandle.
The program's focus is wetland conservation and restoration. Projects of particular interest include those that protect or restore estuarine habitat, projects that provide opportunities for hands-on participation of volunteers, and projects in communities where Shell has facilities. Priority will be given to projects that build new or enhance existing partnerships and that address conservation needs of species characteristic of southeastern U.S. marine ecosystems.
$850,000 in total funding is available. Grants will range from $50,000 to $200,000 each. All grant awards require a minimum 1:1 match of cash or contributed goods and services and a match of over 2:1 is encouraged. This program is extremely competitive.
