The Home Depot Awards of Excellence for Affordable Housing 2007

Deadline: March 30, 2007

The purpose of the Awards of Excellence for Affordable Housing Built Responsibly program is to identify, recognize and showcase the outstanding work of nonprofit housing developers who have successfully combined affordability with healthy, sustainable measures in the design and construction of housing.

Projects are evaluated by an independent advisory committee of experts for:
* creativity in addressing local housing needs,
* quality of design,
* innovation in financing,
* affordability,
* replicability and
* the extent to which green building design measures, construction techniques and products are incorporated in the project.

The Home Depot Foundation is dedicated to uniting partners from across the country to help advance the goal of creating healthy communities through the integration of affordable housing and the community forest. One of our goals is to provide opportunities for our network of nonprofit partners to share their experiences, learnings, challenges and best practices with one another. Additionally, we have created the Awards of Excellence Signature Programs in Affordable Housing Built Responsibly and for Community Trees. Through these programs, the Foundation seeks to identify, recognize and celebrate the exemplary work being done by nonprofits.

Nonprofits that have completed green built affordable housing projects in the past two years should complete a short Letter of Inquiry (LOI) by the deadline date. The LOIs will be read by the Home Depot Foundation and a small group of projects will be selected to submit a full project application for this very competitive program. Without completing the LOI, one cannot participate in this year's competition. There will be one winner ($75,000), a runner-up ($25,000) and 5 honorable mention ($2,500) grant awards in both the rental and homeownership categories.
