Assistant Forester, Nebraska Forest Service (Lincoln, NE)

The Nebraska Forest Service, University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks an Assistant Forester- Inventory and Market Development Program Leader. This is an non-tenure leading position available immediately.

Requires BS in Forestry or a closely related field from a SAF accredited professional degree program, plus three years experience in inventory and marketing programming. Master's in Forestry, Inventory, Marketing or related field is preferred. Proficiency in using analytical tools for analyzing the inventory data preferred.

Duties and responsibilities include: identifying existing and future marketing programs for existing and emerging forest products in Nebraska with special emphasis and focus on woody biomass energy use and promotion; coordinating the periodic survey of primary and secondary wood product processers across the state; coordinating methods to identify rural or urban tree and forest inventory priorities; designing, implementing and managing the programs with methodologies to address those priorities; provide oversight on the management and planning of properties governed by the Nebraska Forest Service (NFS); provide oversight on the implementation of the USFS Forest Legacy Program. In addition, successful candidate will work closely with the NFS GIS Specialist in the geospatial representation of Nebraska's urban or rural tree and forest resources and serve on the NFS Leadership Team to jointly develop and guide NFS direction and programming.
