City Arborist, City of Menlo Park (Menlo Park, CA)

The City of Menlo Park currently has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Arborist. Under direction of the Director of Public Works, the selected candidate will direct/supervise work crews involved in the planting and trimming/pruning of City streets, parks, median and plaza trees. The position will oversee the City's Urban Forest Program and manage the City's inventory of 15,000 trees.

Menlo Park takes great pride in its beautiful array of mature street trees. In addition, this position will take a lead role in implementing the City's Heritage Tree Ordinance including: processing permit applications; reviewing development plans; conducting field investigations; preparing written arborist reports; and coordinating with applicants and City staff.

Qualified candidates should have a High School diploma or equivalent; 5 years of experience in tree maintenance, including 2 years in a supervisory role, and 2 years of experience preparing arborist reports as a certified Arborist. The position requires knowledge of the following: methods, tools, supplies and equipment used in tree maintenance; safe work practices; basic mathematics & procedures for estimating labor, materials and equipment; characteristics of plant & tree pests, disease detection & control techniques; use of specialized equipment such as tractors and aerial lift trucks; and maintenance/repair of light power equipment. PC proficiency and strong supervisory, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills are essential. Must have a valid Class "B" CDL and be a certified Arborist by WCISA and/or ASCA.

$6,078 - $7,326 Monthly (DOQ) - Excellent benefits package
