City Forester, City of Portland (Portland, OR)

The City Nature Zone Manager serves as Portland's City Forester, ensuring the protection, safety and health of the City's urban forest and managing associated arboricultural and horticultural programs. The City Forester oversees the administration and enforcement of applicable City codes and ordinances and resolves conflicts between trees and urban society.

The incumbent works with community members, groups, and volunteers to achieve goals. Duties include supervising subordinate supervisors and staff, providing program direction, acting as a community liaison and coordinating with the Urban Forestry Commission. Additional duties include providing reports and data in support of program areas, and coordinating services with the other Portland Parks & Recreation managers, and other agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Based upon your experience and educational training, please provide an example that demonstrates your knowledge of the principles, practices, and current trends related to urban forestry.
2. Please provide an example that demonstrates your ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work collaboratively with diverse groups or audiences, including public boards and commissions.
3. Please provide an example that demonstrates your knowledge of techniques and practices related to on-the-ground resource management.
4. Please provide an example that demonstrates your knowledge and skills in employee supervision, including motivating and evaluating staff and providing for their training and development
5. Please describe an example that demonstrates your skills and ability in communicating with various audiences.
6. Please provide an example that demonstrates your skills in developing and managing a budget.

RECRUITMENT
An evaluation of each applicant's training and experience, as demonstrated in their resume and cover letter weighted 100%. Only the most qualified candidates passing the resume and cover letter evaluation will be placed on an equally ranked eligible list. Additional evaluation may be required prior to establishment of the eligible list and/or final selection. Some positions may require those placed on the eligible list to complete and sign a criminal conviction statement before being considered for employment.

Salary: $5,550-$7,426 Monthly
