Community Director, Living City Block (Brooklyn, NY)

Living City Block is a national organization pioneering an innovative block-by-block approach to the regeneration of existing urban neighborhoods. Living City Brooklyn Gowanus, our New York-based project, is working within a defined multi-block area in Brooklyn to achieve a set of comprehensive transformation goals across energy/resource efficiency, water management, urban agriculture, entrepreneurship and community connectivity.

We work closely with community members and organizations within our project footprint as well as regional and national leaders in sustainability to drive the most creative solutions possible at a local scale. Living City Brooklyn Gowanus is seeking a full time Community Director who will be responsible for cultivating and managing the critical network of local relationships required to make our project a success.

RESPONSIBILITIES
* Cultivate a detailed understanding of the local landscape including: influencers, community activists, relevant local and regional organizations and prospective operating partners on the ground.
* Continue the work to secure participation of key building owners and stakeholders within the Living City Broolyn Gowanus footprint. Manage these relationships on an ongoing basis.
* Lead the development of a set of programming activities and outreach materials to engage the community around the key sustainability goals of Living City Block.
* Build and maintain relationships and in some cases programmatic partnerships with local organizations and politicians. Identify opportunities to integrate or align their activities with Living City Brooklyn Gowanus programming and goals.
* Identify opportunities to connect programming initiatives with grants and local or regional funding opportunities (working with Director of Development)

QUALIFICATIONS
* While a Masters degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Urban Design, Social Science, Non-profit management or related discipline is beneficial, a Bachelors degree in any of these areas is sufficient.
* A dynamic communicator who can articulate the vision for the project with professionalism and enthusiasm to a diverse set of audiences.
* A highly creative thinker and adaptable to a variety of situations.
* Ready, willing and able to take initiative to build new relationships.
* Familiar with neighborhood preservation / development concepts, methodologies and issues, especially from a sustainability perspective.
* Highly organized and able to manage and maintain many diverse relationships alongside programming initiatives.
* The candidate should have a least 3-5 years experience in relevant community organizing, non-profit management, business development, or education experience.
