Community Farming Camp Crew Leader, Baltimore City (Baltimore, MD)

Community Farming Camp is for Baltimore City youth, ages 14-18. The program will be offered during the summer (June-August). The program focuses on leadership development, job training and peer-to-peer mentoring with an emphasis on available green spaces and urban farming. Having youth learn and work in a safe environment, have positive interactions with their peers and adults and providing them with skills and knowledge they can use in the future are all goals of the Community Farming Camp.

Job Description:
Primary responsibilities include: Manage, supervise and participate in day-to-day work with a crew of ten youth in proper farming practices as they pertain to the creation of urban green spaces. Monitor, manage and promote physical and emotional safety on and off the work sites. Train and motivate a crew of ten youth to efficiently complete farming projects. Coordinate logistics with project sponsors, Program Instructors, and PCCO. Implement the use of environmental and life skills via formal and informal lessons. Complete professional documentation of time sheets, daily and weekly reports, evaluations, incident reports, etc. Promote individual Crew Member development and a healthy crew community.

Qualifications:
Applicant should have/be: Leadership experience (preferably with a diverse group of young adults), familiarity with basic farming skills (including tool maintenance, agricultural, etc.), experience developing and implementing environmental education, excellent organizational skills, good driving record (insurable) and current driver's license, high school diploma or GED (required), relevant Bachelor's degree preferred, First Aid and CPR certification, physically fit (able to work long days in adverse conditions).

Duration & Type of Appointment:
The Community Farming Camp - Crew Leader is a six weeks part-time (30 hours per week) position with the Department of Recreation and Parks (BCRP) - Park Conservation and Community Outreach (PCCO) office. Employee will be compensated only for hours worked at a rate of $10.00 per hour. This position is Non-Civil Service and does not include the City of Baltimore's benefits package or paid leave/holidays.
