Education Coordinator, Trees Atlanta (Atlanta, GA)

The education manager at Trees Atlanta has primary staff responsibility for developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of Trees Atlanta's education programs and activities.
These programs and activities include, but are not limited to, the BeltLine Environmental Education Program, which serves school-age children and their teachers; BeltLine Arboretum Docent Program, in its design phase; interpretive materials for the BeltLine Arboretum; TreeKeepers, a workshop series intended to create community tree experts; guided tree walks; tree pruning classes; tours of the Kendeda Center; and a speaker series. In coordinating these programs, the educator may be asked to manage other staff, interns, and volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Trees Atlanta seeks an educator who is highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and adept with computers. The education coordinator must be an energetic and confident person able to collaborate well with peers and to inform, excite, and manage volunteers and the general public.
Required: Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in a discipline related to the environment. Also, demonstrated ability to manage projects; superior skills in communication (oral and written) and interpersonal relations; track record of being able to meet strict deadlines while working on several concurrent projects.
Desirable: The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience administering and participating in environmental educational programming. Experience working with volunteers is beneficial, as well as working collaboratively on a team. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in and comfort with biology, horticulture, and/or environmental science. Experience interpreting living collections is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
* Outside for hours at a time, with exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather
* Exposure to insects and other outdoor hazards
* Requires lifting (up to 25 lbs.), crouching, and bending
* Evening and weekend work sometimes necessary
* Ability and willingness to travel out of state for training
Hours: Fulltime
Reports to: Chief Program Officer
Compensation: $30,000-$36,000, depending on skills and experience
